FAQ: Can I Write Off My Clothing & Make Up?

I’m a social media influencer. Occasionally, I do photoshoots to market my brand to my followers. Can I write this off on my tax return?

This is the most commonly asked question in today’s world of tax preparation. Social media influencing has become a very popular tool used to market businesses and personalities across the internet. People want to know how they can utilize this tool to minimize their tax liability. Clothes, make up and hair can really add up.

So what’s the scoop? Well, the truth of the matter is that you can write some of these items off. Yes. However, you must be able to prove the items used during these photoshoots or webcam sessions, are NOT for everyday wear or use. Photo shoots that require a professional photographer are also tax deductible. We will go over tax deductions for influencers in a separate post.

To make it easy, we recommend adding your logo or brand to any products and/or merchandise. This will make it easy to distinguish business from personal. This is a way to claim the tax deduction while remaining compliant with the IRS tax code.
